THE Government in Tanga region is working a series of constructive efforrts to attract potential investors to chip in and invest into various economic sector in the region mapped in northen-east corner of Tanzania.
Among the eagerly-awaited investors in the region, are those based education, innovation, crops processing and value addition sector.
Despite being endowed with favourable weather to support production of potential fruits, rarely found prestigious spices and other popular commercial crops, absence of relevant processing plants have been cited to have derailing the region to benefit from the sectors.
Moreover, majority of civil servants who are plying their trade at different public institutions, and those from the private side are failing to advance their education status through useful evening programs that are rolled out by diverse universities because there is no any university, neither varsities branches in the region.
Giving a brief press conference to journalists this afternoon pertaining to this year’s national observations of Education, Skills and Innovation Week 2024, which is taking shape for a week-long at Tanga-based Popatilal Secondary School grounds, the District Commissioner (DC) for Tanga City, Mr. James Kaji said the region need collaborative interventions and support to bounce back to former industry status.
He insisted, the Government in the region has well prepared, including creating friendly investing environment to support the prospective investors from inside and outside the country to extend their investment footholds into the region.
"We're very thankful and happy for the timely decision by the Government through the ministry of Education, Science and Technology to allow Tanga to host this event," he appreciated.
The DC expressed that Tanga is producers of meaningful crops, ranging from cassava, fruits and rarely found prestigious spices, but the involved farmers and the region as a whole is not fully benefiting from the sectors due to absence of needed skills and capitals to establish processing industries.
"I would like to challenge the farmers, small-scale entrepreneurs and the entire citizens of Tanga and neighboring regions to turn out in multitude in order to acquire necessary entrepreneurship skills," he urged.
As part to revamp industry sector, the DC communicated that his office has been working in sync with the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) and Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) to impart the youth and women with vital entrepreneurship skills, but saying much efforts are needed in place for getting intended results.
"This event is sailing on the same boat with the region's current zeal to revive and further stimulating performance of industries through uplifting and assist the small scale entrepreneurs to engage into innovations and creativity works," he insisted.
The Minister of Education, Science and Technology Prof Adolf Mkenda will this afternoon open the country’s key event, tailored for driving forward innovations and creativity.
More than 300 exhibitors from different local universities, research institutes, international organizations, ministries, technical colleges and others are taking part in this year’s event.
