Africa (CEA) to hatch and implement a special project meant to support the vulnerable children in the regions of Dodoma and Dar es Salaam.<br /><br />Through the ongoing constructive initiative, christened ‘Afya Yangu’ the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which receives its comfortable funds from Pangaea Zimbabwe Aids Trust (PZAT) among others focuses to scale up necessary health needs towards the homeless youth and children, without any stigma as well as depression.<br /><br />Giving an exclusive interview to this publication in Dodoma Capital City, the NGO’s Head of Programs, Elizabeth Kafuku detailed as part to implement the project fruitfully, during last year, the initiative conducted a thorough situational analysis which covered at least 583 homeless children, the study which unearth a pathetic revelations.<br /><br />She briefed, the research established that majority of the hapless street children are subjected to different dangerous atrocities, including sodomy, rapes, and earlier pregnancies, as well as human trafficking.<br /><br /><br /><a /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />And she added, the initiative and research was based on the said vulnerable children in Dodoma Capital City, and the three districts of Ilala and Kigamboni in Dar es Salaam.<br /><br />“It’s very threatening and disconcerting as our prior situational analysis found out that most of the homeless young bloods, which are the tomorrow’s generation, are facing an array of serious unfriendly -human menaces,” she expressed.<br /><br />And Kafuku added, “For instances, in Dodoma city, despite of engaging onto use of narcotic drugs, our survey established some cases, at least six cases, in which some of the street children were kidnapped during mid-night hours and to later on found their dead body dumped with some of their organs chopped off,”<br /><br />Sexual negligence, unsafe abortion, stigmatization, suicides, mental illness and HIV/ids infections also stands among the dangerous cases that haunting the said young groups who are dwelling and having shelters along the streets, according to Kafuku.<br /><br /><br /><a /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />To help counter the grim situation, the NGO’s Head of Programs unveiled that the move was seeking major attention and collaboration from the government and other like-minded stakeholders in order to receive enough muscles to implement the vital project more successfully.<br /><br />“We’re soughting to source enough collaboration supports from the government and the other development partners in order to address these challenges in a more sensible manner with an eye to ensure the vulnerable children are given psycho-physical and health assistances, along with key education to help rescue them from the life-ending damages,” she noted.<br /><br />Divulging further information, she expressed that the project was directing its interventions to promote access to health services, especially AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases towards the young groups, without stigma and any other obstacles.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />“The government has so far adhered to the universal health coverage, and thus, we’re mulling it would be prudent for the helpful system to cover these children so that they may stand a safe and assured position to receive good health services,” she unveiled.<br /><br />According to her, the organization has prepared a policy brief, which has identified several shortcomings of the policy and the Law of 2007, 2009 and 2019 for children and youth that basically do not recognize the special health needs of children and youth living and working on the streets.<br /><br />“And these children are affected by diverse challenges that make them unable to get proper services in the health centers located in their vicinities due to some reasons like, fear of coming to the centers, stigmatization from the centers, lack of sufficient education about their rights and responsibilities, thus leading to many being affected by various sexually transmitted diseases and HIV,” Kafuku added.<br /><br /><br /><a tax-payers like us," said Emmanuel Joseph, a leader of the stranded hapless workers.<br /><br />He said the so far issued payment of 11m/- which saw each of them scooped at least 85,000/- meant to cater for transport allowance for them to return to their respective regions while awaiting for the remaining payments.<br /><br />"We failed to depart because despite the amount being poor, we're owes the food vendors who used to feed us on loan basis, and the house owner need his rent in order to let us free," he expressed. <br /><br /><br />To that end, they asked President Samia Suluhu Hassan to intervene of the saga, alleging that they have so far took several measure to seek for their payment from different government authorities, but with no good avail.<br /><br />" We have finalised the work since earlier December, 2023 in accord to the contract but our employer is seemingly not keen to pay us," he lamented.<br /><br />He said most of the workers are coming from far regions from Dodoma, added: "Bad enough, we have been evacuated in the house in which our boss had rented to us due to failure to pay rent, and our home families have greatly been affected with this promising results.<br /><br />"This is the third time now we come to seek for RC help, when we came for the second time, on November 2023, the company's owner shortly call to tell us not to disturb the RC anymore, said she was finalizing our payments, the promise which she didn't fulfill to date," Joseph explained.<br /><br />Furthermore, he said they even went to see the Regional manger with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) over their pathetic situation.<br /><br />"The manager told us he was not in any position to help, saying the company is obliged to pay us," according to him.<br /><br />When contacted to comment over the allegations, the company's Managing Director Judith Odunga admitted to have not foot the workers remaining payment.<br /><br />She itemized a number of technical facts that have 'arm- twisted' her to issue the remaining amount, however saying she was working teeth and nail to settle the dispute.<br /><br />"It is true, the workers have completed the work as we have agreed but I am encountering some financial constrains to pay them," she said.<br /><br />Odunga, who is a leader of Tanzania's women contractors detailed that she was currently working several viable efforts to net the money, insisted that the workers will soon receive their rights.<br /><br />"At first time when they (workers) went to see the RC, the RC asked RUWASA to pay me so that i can foot the outstanding debt," she said.<br /><br />In response, she detailed that RUWASA said it will only be in position to pay if the company will complete to laydown water pumps in the trenches.<br /><br />"I have already contacted with some financial institutions to help me getting the required pumps and processes are in good shape, though I am also looking for other sources for getting the money," Odunga assured.<br /><br />And she added, on December 23, she held fruitful conservation with the workers, whereby she expressed to them over the agriculture, the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), the Brazilian Cotton Institute (IBA), the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), and the Tanzania Cotton Board (TCB).<br /><br />The initiative works to heighten the institutional capacity and human resources training in the use and dissemination of technology in the cotton production sector in the country.<br /><br />The Victoria Cotton Project, and Beyond Cotton Project, all under the financial auspices from Brazil have so far played a great role to heighten the performance of the sector among the farmers in several regions, such as Mwanza, sugarcane farming modern implements and other key inputs have already arrived in Dar es Salaam's sea port from India.<br /><br />These, according to him include the special 200m/- worth agricultural machine ( for planting sugarcane) and the green harvest fertilizer (organic fertilizer).<br /><br />"We have so far entered into contract farming with a total of 26 local farmers who will be obliged to cultivate a total of 483 hectares of sugarcane in order to produce at least 25,000 tons of sugarcane to enable the plant to produce a total of 2,500 tons of sugar in it first year of production," he expressed.<br /><br />He said the farmers under the deal will separately manage their sugarcane estates in the different villages in Dabalo ward, including Igamba, Manyanda, Chiwondo and Dabalo.<br recommended by the Sugar Board of Tanzania (SBT).<br /><br />He added that, from January to April 2024 the project will see construction of a modern residential complex for sheltering the plant’s experts, including houses and a major dining hall, as well as a godown.<br /><br />“And from April to September 2024, we are expecting to import into the country the 5bn/- worth major machines for the processing of sugar in readiness to start production,” he unveiled.<br /><br />Dubbed ‘Sukari Halisi (Dabalo Sugar), the investor expressed that the facility which will start by producing a total of 2,500tons of sugar in its first production leg, in 2025 will later on heighten the production to between 4,000 and 5,000 tons.<br /><br />“The factory’s main market vision priority will first be based factory with Dodoma City, the poor situation he expressed to have thwarted smooth relocation of the factory’s machines from Dar es Salaam to the project’s venue.<br /><br />“For example, most of the machines, and other facilities are still in Dar es Salaam as we have no means to transfer them to the factory’s site due road infrastructure complications,” he infomed, urging the government to help improve the situation.<br /><br />However, Purandare extended gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for assisting the Indian investors to chip in and invest largely into the country, as well as
