Khamis, the Director General (DG) of Tantrade, formalized the agreement, which aims to create new opportunities for Tanzanian exporters under the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) program.<br /><br />"We are thrilled to announce this partnership with Tantrade," said Mr. Mukisa during a colorful signing ceremony of the crucial agreement.<br /><br />And he added: "This MoU will serve as the foundation for Tanzanian exporters to gain unprecedented access to the UK market, promoting economic growth and development in Tanzania. font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">During their visit, which started on Monday, the delegation was given a tour of the future site of the Ngorongoro-Lengai UNESCO Global Geopark Museum and visited Tumaini Junior English Medium Pre and Primary School and Father Lieberman Pre and Primary School, both in Karatu, to observe educational initiatives aimed at making young generations pioneers and future ambassadors of the geopark.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; This initiative marks the first time in Tanzania’s history that prisoners will have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.<br /><br />Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, speaking at the launch of the permanent voter registration exercise in Kigoma on July 21, 2024, emphasized the importance of this development. He called on the Prison Service to set up the necessary infrastructure to facilitate the Independent National Electoral Commission (NEC) in registering prisoners serving sentences of less than six months, as well as detainees.<br /><br />“This opportunity, enabled by the law passed by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, allows prisoners to vote for their chosen leaders. This is the first time in our country’s history that prisoners and detainees are given the chance to vote while in prison,” Majaliwa stated.<br /><br />This policy shift follows the NEC’s announcement that prisoners serving sentences of less than six months will be included in the permanent voter register. Various stakeholders have since advocated for further amendments to allow all prisoners to vote, arguing that imprisonment should not strip individuals of their voting rights, as they are still governed by elected leaders.<br /><br />Tanzania’s move to enfranchise prisoners aligns with practices in several other African countries. For instance, South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana have long allowed prisoners to vote, recognizing the importance of upholding democratic rights irrespective of incarceration. Tanzania, however, has lagged in this regard, primarily due to legal and logistical challenges and concerns over prison security and administration.<br /><br />Majaliwa also urged all election stakeholders, including the police force and immigration department, to visit voter registration centres to ensure that those ineligible to vote, particularly non-citizens, are identified and excluded from the voter rolls. This vigilance aims to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.<br /><br />The 2022 Population and Housing Census indicates that 5,586,433 new voters will be registered in the Permanent Voter Register. These include individuals who have turned 18 since the last general election in 2020 and those who will reach voting age by the 2025 election. Additionally, approximately 4,369,531 voters are expected to update their information.<br /><br />“This is not a small number for the voter register update exercise. Therefore, I urge every registered voter needing to update their information not to hesitate to visit the registration centers. The NEC has planned to ensure all citizens are reached, even in the remotest areas,” Majaliwa emphasized.<br /><br />He further encouraged all voters to update their details or transfer their registration as needed, highlighting the NEC's preparedness to reach all citizens, ensuring comprehensive voter registration and participation.<br /><br />This groundbreaking decision reflects a significant step towards inclusive democracy in Tanzania, reinforcing the principle that every citizen’s voice matters, regardless of their circumstances.<br /></span><br /> </div>

Judithi Kapinga, during a working visit to the villages of Lubonde and Maweni in Ludewa district.<br /><br />Kapinga highlighted the government’s appreciation for the significant work done by the Catholic Church in collaboration with the government in various investment sectors. She instructed the Rural Energy Agency (REA) to oversee the contractor executing electrification projects in Ludewa, ensuring timely completion in the remaining eight villages.<br /><br /><br /><br />"Our goal is to continue generating more electricity to meet the increasing demand and to support projects that export electricity outside Tanzania," Kapinga stated.<br /><br />Previously, the Chairman of Madope Power Company, Father Innocent Ngailo, announced that the Catholic Church in Njombe had written to the government requesting Tanesco to take over Madope’s power infrastructure. He expressed gratitude for the government's positive response.<br /><br />Father Ngailo confirmed that Madope would continue to generate electricity, which it will sell to TANESCO. In a recent discussion with journalists visiting their area to learn about their traditional environmental conservation knowledge, community leaders expressed an urgent need for assistance.<br /><br />This initiative is part of a project implemented by the Media Aid for Indigenous and Pastoralists Communities (MAIPAC), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the UNDP’s Small Grants Programme and the Office of the Vice President - Environment.<br /><br />Ng’washambi Kusombi, a leader of the Hadzabe community in Murusi camp, Qang’dend village, Baray ward, Karatu, highlighted that despite their traditional knowledge enabling them to preserve forests and water sources, their livelihood is now at risk.<br /><br /> Kusombi stated that farmers and pastoralists have invaded their lands, cultivating crops, rearing livestock, cutting down trees, and producing charcoal, which has greatly affected their ability to find food and other necessities.<br /><br />"Previously, we could hunt wild animals nearby, but now we have to travel great distances. The fruits and roots we relied on have decreased because trees are being cut down for charcoal," Kusombi said.<br /><br />He also mentioned that even honey, a staple food for the Wahadzabe, is becoming scarce as the trees they use for beekeeping are being taken over by the invaders.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br />"There are baobab trees that we used for beekeeping, but now we are told they are no longer ours, and we are forced to share the honey with those who claim ownership," Kusombi added.<br /><br /> He also revealed that some village leaders have been secretly selling their land, despite the district council acknowledging that the land belongs to the Wahadzabe, though they have not been given formal ownership documents.<br /><br />Nyambulu Njegela, another community member, noted that wildlife has fled further away because of the environmental degradation caused by the invaders.<br /><br />"We now travel long distances to hunt. We usually hunt one large animal and do not hunt again until the meat is finished, but now there are no animals nearby," Njegela said.<br /><br /> He emphasized that if the current situation is not controlled, their lives will be in jeopardy as even the caves they used to live in have been invaded by other communities.<br /><br />Juliana Yohana pointed out the additional burden on women, who now have to walk long distances to fetch water, gather roots for food, and collect medicinal plants.<br /><br />"We urgently need help to prevent further invasion of our land. However, there are numerous invaders farming on their land, cutting trees for charcoal, and have been allocated land by village leaders," he said.<br /><br />Through the GEF/UNDP project, they aim to disseminate this knowledge to the media to help communities preserve the environment, forests, and water sources.<br /><br />Donata Kimaro, Head of the Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Unit in Karatu District Council, stated that the council has begun addressing the land invasions affecting the Wahadzabe.<br /><br /> Kimaro mentioned that the council had already developed a land-use plan for the Wahadzabe community areas, but there are still challenges in understanding among some village leaders and residents.<br /><br />Reginald Hallu, Karatu District Forest Officer, reported that the council has started arresting individuals invading Wahadzabe land, constructing buildings, farming, and producing charcoal illegally.<br /><br /> "We already have several cases involving people who invaded Wahadzabe land and started producing charcoal. Some have paid fines and left. We warn that it is forbidden to invade land designated for the Wahadzabe community," Hallu stated.<br /><br />The Wahadzabe community continues to face significant challenges as their land and resources are encroached upon, threatening their traditional way of life and survival. font-size: large;">  <br /><br />THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has successfully managed to collect at least 27.64trn/- during the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024.<br /><br />Following the impressive development, TRA has hailed traders, as well as other tax- payers in the country for standing at forefront in implementing their statutory role to pay due taxes on time, thus enabling it to net the reasonable revenues.<br /><br />Mr Hudson Kamoga, the TRA's Acting Director for Taxpayer's Education and Communication expressed that the amount collected was a major milestone achieved by the country's tax- collecting Authority, urged the Tanzanians in the tax paying corridor to voluntarily continue fulfilling their tax- paying obligations.<br /><br />"TRA wishes to extend deep appreciations to the country’s traders, service providers and the Tanzanians as a whole for being trustful in paying taxes, the patriotic development which gives the Government strong teeth to accomplish numerous initiatives meant to solve varied social challenges towards the public, as well as implementing development projects across the country," he appreciated. <br /><br />He was speaking to reporters in the ongoing Dar es Salaam International Trader Fair (DITF 2024) Exhibitions which is taking shape at the Sabasaba grounds in the Tanzania’s Business Capital City.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTzyU-yL30JJoihwwfUaM829aRnUe56p5SbjTh5QVHRQz-tn0S9hpRx7V2c7ueXCKtzkQ40BJKeJeZTTJFna83uAqrGJU_TU0ha31hFHECJaPlKn_gdiaBkPimqOyvPDJ9y-FKZc45cywudQd5Zv_y52xEc5H6kn3X4Wo0lqhLqZXM8hpBUHJI8GTll-0/s960/IMG-20240705-WA0002.jpg"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTzyU-yL30JJoihwwfUaM829aRnUe56p5SbjTh5QVHRQz-tn0S9hpRx7V2c7ueXCKtzkQ40BJKeJeZTTJFna83uAqrGJU_TU0ha31hFHECJaPlKn_gdiaBkPimqOyvPDJ9y-FKZc45cywudQd5Zv_y52xEc5H6kn3X4Wo0lqhLqZXM8hpBUHJI8GTll-0/w640-h360/IMG-20240705-WA0002.jpg" /></a><br /><br />Together with that, Mr Kamoga hailed the Members of Parliament (MPs) for passing a new Finance Bill for 2024/25 financial year.<br /><br />He said the new regulations which came into effect from 1st July 2024 will further improve and regulate tax collection sector in the country.<br /><br />"We have well- prepared to conduct a series of awareness creation towards the tax- payers across the country, focusing to educate them over the newly introduced regulations," he informed.<br /><br />He added that, following a vital metamorphosis in the tax- paying sector in the country, TRA will work round the clock to improve its tax- collecting systems, especially through adopting cloud- connected facilities with an eye to easy and fast- tracking the involved process.<br /><br />And he urged the tax- payers, and the other Tanzanians to visit at the TRA's pavilion in order to acquire more awareness pertaining to tax - paying, but also to receive other relevant services.<br /><br />"The major challenge that currently facing huge percent of the tax- payers in Tanzania, especially the traders is poor awareness and seriousness in record keeping," <br /><br />"During the time to review, compute and set needed tax estimations, usually from January to March, we're often facing a major challenge following failure by most traders to manage their business flow records," he expressed. <br /><br />To great extent, Mr Kamoga observed that the challenge is due to failure by most of the ttaders to issue electronic fiscal devices (EFDs) receipts to their esteemed customers.<br /><br />" TRA wishes to remind all traders and the other service providers to issue EFD receipts to their customers, and not otherwise," he urged.<br /><br />He underscored over the need for the public (customers) to adopt the patriotic culture of demanding EFDs receipts whenever they purchase any commodity, or receiving any service through the formal systems.<br /><br /><br />" Having the EFDs receipts is very necessary, because apart from enabling the Government to effectively collect taxes, the receipts is vital for customer's security," he insisted. <br /><br />He similarly urged the public to use the TRA's developed Hakiki Stempu in order to stand a professional side to verify quality of products.<br /><br /> "Hakiki Stempu is an application that allows the public to check whether the product they are about to purchase is genuine or not. This application will scan the product to check if it has the right tax stamp. The app will detect the number of the tax stamp, its type, and whether it is genuine or not. The user will be given a result that will let them know if the product is genuine or not," he detailed.<br /><br /><br /></span><br /></div>
