The Case of economic sabotage facing two suspects of Giraffe poaching Who were arrested in the area of ​​Burunge Wildlife Management Areas with the  Giraffe meat are expected to be heard on March 20, 2024.

The suspects, Paulo Himid John (23) Athuman Misanya (23) were arrested on February 2, 2024 with Giraffe meat and Giraffe carcass worth 50,079,208 million shillings.

The case is expected to be heard before the magistrate in charge officer of the Babati district court, Victor Kimario.

Previously, the prosecutors of the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) Getrude Kariongi and Shahidu Kajwangya explained before the court the other day that they have completed the investigation and are ready to proceed with the evidence.

However, the suspects explained that they have found a lawyer, Festo Jackson, who will be defending them, so he asked the court of law for more time to go through the case file.

Magistrate Kimario agreed with Jackson's lawyer's request and thus adjourned the case until March 20 when the third prosecution witness will testify.

In another step, another poaching case number 3/2024 facing Shaban Muna who was found with Giraffe meat will start to be heard on March 19 this year.

There have been cases of Giraffe poaching in the Burunge WMA area after the strengthening of conservation and the increase of Giraffe in the area.

However, already TAWA in collaboration with the investors Chemchem Association,  Burunge WMA Rangers, Babati council Rangers, TANAPA Rangers and the Police force have strengthened patrols in the area.
