Small Scale Farmers Should Buy Quality Seeds From Registered Company

Over 300 small scale farmers from Geita, Iringa, Mbeya, Morogoro, Mwanza, Shinyanga and Tabora. Regions have been asked to stop buying seeds at auctions and instead buy from registered agents.

Speaking at the farmers' training workshop provided by plant scientist experts from Balton Tanzania company that imports and distributes seeds in Tanzania, the Officer in Charge of the Tanzania Seed Quality Control Institute, Northern zone, Dr. Munguatosha Ngumuo said it is important to buy certified seeds.

Dr. Ngomuo said farmers should stop traditional farming and instead learn modern farming by using proven quality seeds.

The Managing Director of Balton Tanzania, Chris Keeping, asked the farmers to know the type of seed suitable for planting in the area they are in as well as learn how to control insects to help them get more crops for the farmers.

 He has said that doing productive agriculture especially in this period of the effects of the Climate change in the country's behavior will lead to having enough food in the country and the surplus to be sold abroad.

 BaltonTanzania Plant Science expert Halima Amir said farmers should use the right seeds and cultivate according to expertise.

Farmers Paulo Nko from Ngaramtoni in Arumeru and Hapiness Kaweji from Tarakea in Kilimanjaro region praised the education provided by Balton Tanzania improving their agriculture.

The three-day training has provided by the Balton Tanzania seed company, which has also involved seed agents in the country and agricultural experts.
