Babati District Executive Director Anna Mbogo has encouraged the Leaders of 10 Village  Community Bank (VICOBA) groups in the Burunge Wildlife Management Areas to keep their financial records correctly to avoid conflicts that will cause the groups to break up.


She said this today, February 7, during the opening ceremony of a three consecutive days workshop for the leaders of the VICOBA groups, organized by the Chemchem Association, which carries out conservation activities in the Burunge Wildlife Management Areas in Manyara region.


She has said that some of the things that cause groups to break up include not keeping records correctly and using group funds irregularly.


She has asked the Leaders not to keep money at home and instead to open a group bank account according to the 2019 community financial policy that requires every group to have a bank account.


"The government highly values ​​savings and loan groups because these groups stimulate the development of society, so group leaders should be honest with the group's money to build trust among group members." said the Director.


On his welcoming note to the Director of the Babati District Council, the Executive Manager of the Chemchem Association Clever Zullu said that they are very proud to facilitate those groups for 7 years Now to lend and bring benefits to the community of the villages as well Their happiness is to see the fruits of conservation led by the citizens themselves become useful large.


He mentioned the 10 groups managed by Chemchem Association since 2017 till now are Upendo-B, Marewa, Kigogoni, Datoga, Wacheda, Keja, Esinyati, Mdorii, Upendo-A and Mang'oo where the leaders of those groups will be given a three-days training to comply with the Community Microfinance Policy of 2019 which will be registered and recognized by the Babati District Council.


The Director of Chemchem Association Ms. Fabian Bausch has said that the unity and solidarity between deposit and loan groups have made it possible for the residents of the ten villages surrounding the Burunge Reserve to be economically empowered.


She has said that when they started these groups in 2017, for each village, the community did not have a great understanding of having deposit and loan groups, but now the whole world is aware of the conservation activities that are done in Burunge WMA's and attract many visitors who come to visit and raise a lot of foreign currency.


Through the conservation and photo tourism funds, Chemchem Association gives back to the community by helping in the education, health and environment sectors.


These ten groups have been nurtured by Chemchem Association since 2017 where the workshop will help them to be able to open the accounts of those groups at NMB Bank to comply with the requirements of the social finance policy of the year 2019 to be kept in a bank account to be safe.
