The Macklion FC team has won the Chem Chem Cup 2023 championship for the third time after defeating Macedonia FC 2-0 in the final game played at the Mdori stadium in Babati district in Manyara region.



In the competition, which has involved 33 teams, had the aim of fight against giraffe poaching in the area of ​​10 villages that make up the Burunge Wildlife Management Area, in Babati district, Manyara region.



Appart from the Macklion team winning the championship, Maweni FC was also seen winning the championship for young people under the age of 18 after defeating Mwada 2-0.


On the other side, the Mwada Girls' teams, won the Championship for the first time after beating Maweni Queens 4-0.

The best players for the senior, youth and girls teams were given trophies, a golden shoe for the best scorer and a golden hand for the best goalkeepers.

When Closing the competition, the sports officer of Manyara Region, Pastory Samwel on behalf of the Administrative Secretary of Manyara region, has congratulated the organizers of the competition, the Chem Chem Association, for providing conservation education through sports but also fighting to ensure that football continues to be played.


He said that the competition under the slogan of Save the Giraffe has been a bridge for young people to fulfill their dreams because there are those who have gone through it and are now playing in the Premier League including Ihefu FC midfielder, Yusuph Athumani.

"The Afcon of 2027 will be played here in Tanzania and in the neighboring region of Arusha, the matches will be played so for us it will be an opportunity for our excellent Mdori stadium to get a chance for the team to practice", said Samwel.

On his part, the director of the Chem Chem Association
, Nicolaus Negri has made it clear that they have spent Tsh 99,220,000 to run the competition whereby they have also succeeded in providing education on wildlife conservation in the Burunge wildlife management Area.



"Our purpose was to encourage environmental care, to provide education to the community on environmental conservation, to fight wildlife poaching, to build relationships in the community as well as to raise talents", said Negri.

In terms of prizes, the senior Soccer team has received Tsh2,500,000, second winner Tsh1,500,000, third winner Tsh1,000,000, Women champion Tsh1,500,000, second winner Tsh1,000,000, third winner Tsh500,000.

Youth U-18, the champion got Tsh1,000,000, the second winner Tsh600,000, the third winner Tsh400,000.

The competition has been held for the eighth year now since it was established in 2014, where it involved 33 senior football teams, U-18 youth and women from 10 villages of the Burunge Wildlife Management Area.


Babati District Wildlife Officer, Laizer said the Babati District Council commends the use of sports in the fight against poaching.

Laizer said that since the start of the competition, many citizens have known the benefits of conservation and the fight against poaching.

In the final, the chem chem Association also continued to provide free bicycle assistance to people with leg disabilities.
