Chemchem Association, which has invested in tourism activities in the area of the Burunge Wildlife Management Area(WMA)has provided sports equipment for women and youth teams in 10 villages in Babati District.
The goal of providing such equipment is to involve women and youth in conservation through sports that have started in those villages.
The Chem chem association Community Projects officer , Nganashe Lukumay speaking at the women's Bonanza of Mwada Village said that the equipment is expected to enable women's and youth teams to prepare for the chem chem CUP 2023 championship.
Nganashe says this year they will have soccer games for women and youth in a league aimed at fighting giraffe poaching in the area.
He said that the institution will also continue to strengthen the ability to earn income for women through their groups to push themselves economically.
The chairman of chem chem CUP, Erasto Belela said this year for the first time 10 villages will provide women's and youth teams under 18 years.
"Our goal is now we are going through all 10 villages to encourage young people and women to use sports in the development of conservation because it gives us great benefits" he said
He said that the hope is that young people and women will be good conservationists and fight against poaching in their areas.
"These chem chem association are the only investors in the Manyara region who involve the entire community in developing conservation, sports and supporting important services such as education and health," he said.
Josephine Pascal, a player from Mwada Qeeen, has said that they congratulate the association in encouraging starting women's sports.
"We were not playing but we are motivated to start playing games but we will also cooperate with these investors to fight poaching" he said
"This year the sports slogan is to save the Giraffe and we believe this year there will be great excitement because we women have stopped loving wild meat," she said.
Chemchem has invested in the Burunge WMA area through the EBN subsidiary to do tourist hunting, photo tourism and tourist hotels .
