font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">There had been increased incidences of killing of giraffes in the protected area for game meat trade.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">A fortnight ago, two people were arrested for alleged selling of giraffe meat after mowing down the animal.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">The 283 square km Burunge WMA is sandwiched between the Tarangire and Lake Manyara national parks.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">The protected area is managed by the local communities and was formed by ten villages around Lake Burunge.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">When reached on the issue, the Manyara regional crimes officer (RC0) Juma Majura said they will team up with the locals to fight wanton killing of wild animals.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">Recently, the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (Tawa) conducted a training for the WMA rangers and those from Babati district.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">Two prosecutors Gertrude Kariongi and Blandina Msawa from the Office of Public Prosecutor  urged the rangers to work professionally.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">Ms Kariongi insisted that once arrested the poaching suspects should be immediately arraigned to face the wrath of law.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">"Their cases should  be fast-tracked and rulings made without much delay", she pointed out.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">On her part, Ms Msawa called on the game rangers to speed up investigations once the suspects are arrested.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">The training was conducted by Tawa in collaboration with Chem Chem Association which operates in the area and fully engaged in anti-poaching fight.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">This is according to an officer in charge of Tawa in the northern zone regions, Emmanuel Pius who noted that the training was aimed to increase capacity of the rangers in investigations and prosecution.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana;  through the Tanzania Second mutual evaluation report and regulations on
 Money laundering,(ML), Terrorism Financing( TF), and Proliferation 
Financing (PF) as NPO/CSO's can be directly or indirectly subjected to  
these crimes. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">NPO/CSO's
 have deeply engaged in discussing  the proliferation Financing as the 
process  that facilitates the movement and development of 
proliferation-sensitive items and as such, can contribute to global 
instability and potentially catastrophic loss of life if weapons of mass
 destruction (WMD) are developed and deployed   to the respective 
destiny. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">As
 CSOs/NPOs has to make sure that aren't involving with the sanctioned 
countries/designated individuals as the region and international ML/TF 
and PF monitoring institutions such as FATF and ESAAMLG can rate our 
country as the non complying Nation with regards to the international 
set standards hence to be subjected to a higher risk of been internally 
sanctioned. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">This may be accompanied with the burning of the identified NPO/CSOS hence affecting the sectoral sustainability</span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: verdana; font-size: large;">In
 case that NPO/CSOs, comes to realize  unknowingly engaged with sanction
 designated Institute/individuals, they have to report to the Tanzania

 Msawa giving training to wildlife Rangers</span></span></td></tr></tbody></table><span style="font-family: verdana;"><span style="font-size: large;"><br /><br /><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>BY: OUR REPORTER IN BABATI</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Rangers at Burunge Wildlife Management Area (WMA) have been trained in investigating and cambatting and poaching.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) organised the training, while the Chem Chem Association, which has invested in tourism activities and conservation within the Burunge WMA, provided financial support to it.</div><div><br /></div><div>The TAWA prosecutor, Ms Getrude Kariongi, and the prosecutor from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Manyara Region, Ms Brandina Msawa, pleaded with the rangers during the training session to adhere to the law while arresting poachers.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ms Kariongi said case would be timely heard and judgment would be appropriately made should the rangers arrest poachers, carry out searches and preserve evidence properly.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Ms Msawa explained that adhereing to the law in the process of arresting and investigating poachers helped to speed up the case procedures.</div><div><br /></div><div>On his part, the TAWA Northern Zone Conservation Officer, Mr Emmanuel Pius, hjighlighted the importance of the training to the rangers, saying it would strengthen their skills in the fight against poaching.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Police Criminal Investigation Department would also impart skills on appearing at courts to the rangers in a bid to simplify hearing of cases, he added.</div><div><br /></div><div>Mr Pius said the responsibility of the rangers was to ensure they continue protecting the nation's natural resources for the benefit and interests of the present and future generations.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Head of Anti-poaching Department of the Chem Chem Association, Mr Erick Nayman, said there had been incidents of poaching within the Burunge WMA, thanks  to the increase in human activities in the area.</div><div><br /></div><div>He, however, said the association had been spending more than Sh400 million annually on fighting against poaching, including the purchase of vehicles and protective equipment.</div><div><br /></div><div>Babati District Administrative Secretary (DAS), Mr Khalfani Matipula, asked the rangers and wildlife officers when opening the training session to work professionally to ensure the nation's natural resources are well protected.</div><div><br /></div><div>Poach ought to be stopped at all cost in the district by ensuring suspects are arrested and sent to court timely.</div><div> </div></span></span><span style="font-family: verdana;"><br /></span>
