THE Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) has conducted a special crack down to inspect over safe use of radiation in at 66 health facilities across Ilala District in Dar es Salaam.
During the vital exercise, a total of 54 health centers were found to have met the set legal requirements, and have been blessed by the state- owned atomic watchdog commision to continue rolling out services.
But on the other side, the impromptu inspection managed to spot out at least 12 health centres that have been delivering services in discordant to the set laws and procedures for the safe use of radiation in providing services to the public.
To that end, the Commission, TAEC, has so far mete out diverse needed legal measures against the 12 health centers in question with an eye to protect the public from the posible dangerous effects of radiation.
Speaking to reporters during the inspection, TAEC's Radiation Specialist Mr. Peter Mammba expressed that the purpose of the inspection was to ensure that the use of radiation in the country is safe in order to protect patients, workers, citizens and the environment in general.
Reacted shortly affter receiving the inspection report, the Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS) of Dar es Salaam, Mrs. Rehema Madenge congratulated TAEC for conducting an inspection exercise and asked the Commission to continue running thr similar inspections regularly in order to ensure that citizens are safe from the use of radiation services.
Being an active member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Tanzania is implementing a number of protocols aimed at ensuring for safety use of radiations in all sectors that use any sources from the nuclear sector.
